New Test Application in QDAAT Family - Over the Air Device Management (OTADM)

w2bi is pleased to announce the addition to the Q-DAAT family of automated testing solutions a new test application Over the Air Device Management (OTADM). This new test suite enables automated performance testing of OTADM in an emulated environment. QuikProbe Device Analysis and Authentication Tool (Q-DAAT) is a proven family of automated testing solutions covering both the live and emulated network environments used by carriers and device manufacturers to assess devices and their functionality.

Benefits of the Automated Solution
During a wireless device over the air firmware update, the messages and firmware downloads are initiated and processed in several ways. Testing for correct device performance in live network environments is challenging, particularly for test scenarios which require a download interruption due to a network or a device initiated event. For example, a handoff to a roaming partner during download is a significant challenge to reproduce in the live network.

Verizon Wireless recently developed and certified a manual test plan for emulated network operation. w2bi’s OTADM automates execution of the test plan, and integrates all the required components under the Q-DAAT execution environment including Spirent 1X emulators, EVDO network emulators, and OMASS (OMA Server Simulator) server. An OTADM programmable vDC power supply, for handset battery elimination, is available to emulate varying battery charge levels during FOTA testing, with impact measurement results provided by OTADM.
Additionally, OTADM provides OCR (optical character recognition) technology to facilitate device display message analysis, further simplifying the Testers set-up and execution of the automated tests.

w2bi announces Feature Validation, a new addition to the QDAAT

w2bi is pleased to announce Feature Validation, a new addition to the QuikProbe Device Analysis and Authentication Tool (Q-DAAT) family of automated testing solutions. This new test suite provides rapid validation of all major feature functionality of the device after minor software or hardware changes. Feature Validation is available for deployment.

Regression testing takes place after a device undergoes changes to software or hardware that do not require a complete retesting of the device. Feature Validation checks the device’s major functions to ensure that minor changes to software or hardware intended to fix or improve a particular function have not impacted key functional areas.

w2bi announces Diagnostic Message (DM) Log Analysis a new addition to the QDAAT

w2bi is pleased to announce Diagnostic Message (DM) Log Analysis, a new addition to the QuikProbe Device Analysis and Authentication Tool (Q-DAAT) family of automated testing solutions. This new test suite enables testing for performance impact based on diagnostic logging. DM Log Analysis will be commercially available starting October 1, 2006.

The DM Log Analysis is a new test suite for Verizon Wireless Certification. During wireless device testing, OTA messages are logged using various tools such as CAIT and UDM to help debug failures and augment test results. Although logging and log messages provide support during testing, these processes place additional load on the wireless device’s processor and operating system. This in turn can degrade the device’s performance. Thus, to understand the true performance of a wireless device, it is imperative to assess and understand the impact of logging. DM Log Analysis evaluates two aspects of the DM operation. First it measures the impact of logging on the wireless device features and functions performance. Second, if the required log messages are available for each tested feature and function when logging is enabled.

w2bi’s Q-GENERIC® Provides a Comprehensive Turnkey System for Certifying System Acquisition

Union, NJ (Sept 14, 2006) - w2bi Inc, announces the release of Q-GENERIC® a comprehensive automated System Acquisition device testing solution which addresses the needs of CDMA network operators and OEM suppliers. The patent pending solution verifies the system acquisition capabilities of a device loaded with any operator’s PRL. The cost efficient turnkey solution will be commercially available Oct 1, 2006.

WHY SYSTEM ACQUISITION?

“As the trend of cellular call rates continue downward, System Acquisition will have direct impact on operating costs. Opex can be significantly reduced through the proper acquisition of network resources, maintaining profitability for operators and reducing roaming cost.” – Ron Parmar, President of w2bi, Inc. said in the statement. Wireless devices must be able to make emergency calls at all times. Inability to complete such calls could result in service violation penalties from government authorities. Proper testing ensures uninterrupted operation during critical emergency situations. Device provisioning and maintenance via OTASP must function properly. Device’s failure to do so could result in loss of subscribers and revenues.

w2bi Applies for Patent on Technology to Dynamically Parse Preferred Roaming Lists

New technology allows incorporated into Q-GENERICTM for Automated Universal System Acquisition Testing

Union, NJ (June 15, 2006) - w2bi Inc announces today that it has applied for a patent for a new technology to dynamically parse Preferred Roaming Lists (PRL) and create RF conditions for testing. The patent entitled “Adapted Test of System Acquisition and Roaming Characteristics of CDMA Wireless Communication Devices” describes a methodology to create dynamically the required RF conditions for testing of CDMA devices.

One of the key challenges to testing of CDMA devices in a laboratory environment is the creation of the RF conditions through CDMA emulators. The parameters set on the emulators must be based on the PRL entries. To meet this requirement, automated tests generally used a set test PRL and then created static presets which contained system parameters based on the PRL. If testers wish to use a different PRL then the presets need to be re-defined. This can be a time consuming process and may lead to false failures if the preset parameters are not correct.

With the new patented technology, the presets for testing CDMA devices are dynamically generated based on the test PRL. This new technology is being incorporated into Q-GENERIC, a turnkey testing solution for system acquisition. With this patent pending technology, system acquisition testing can now be performed on any test PRL from any carrier without need to change or modify test cases. Q-GENERIC can be used for testing CDMA2000 and 1xEVDO hybrid mode devices which utilize IS 683A and IS 683C formatted PRLs respectively.

QUIKPROBE Automated Testing solution now supports EV-DO

In its continuing effort to provide the most comprehensive automated testing of CDMA handsets and devices, w2bi (wireless-2-business integration) today announces its support for EV-DO within its QUIKPROBE automated testing product. EV-DO (Evolutionary Data Optimized) service provides high rate data throughput on the mobile device. This high speed data throughput is independent of 1xRTT, thus allowing a handset to manage both data and call processing.

CDMA Carriers such as Verizon Wireless, Telus and Alltel have deployed EV-DO in their networks to provide the high speed data service to their customers. The new infrastructure consists of collocated 1xRTT and EV-DO systems which are available to mobile devices which are EV-DO capable. The availability of EV-DO places new requirements on device testing and certification.

To meet the new testing capabilities, w2bi has added new test suites and expanded existing scripts in its QUIKPROBE family of automated testing solutions. The following presents some of the new capabilities that have been added for testing EV-DO compliant Devices

EV-DO Hybrid Mode System Determination- A new test suite for Hybrid Mode System Determination testing has been added to QUIKPROBE. The test cases address acquisition scenarios when collocated 1xRTT and EV-DO signals are present. The following areas are tested

  • Home Service
  • Acquire Preferred Service
  • Negative Systems
  • System Lost During Traffic State
  • System Lost During Idle State
  • Deep Sleep
  • Collocated EV-DO Systems
  • Acquisition During Traffic

Data Throughput Testing- Through it Data Test Pro and Apex Test scripts marketed through Spirent Communications, w2bi has provide throughput testing in both live and emulated environment. These test applications now support both 1xRTT and EV-DO environments.

QDAAT- To meet the needs of live network Mobile IP testing, w2bi created QDAAT (QUIKPROBE Data Authentication and Analysis Test) a standalone application which implements emulated and live network tests. These can be run either in the lab or in field testing operations. To augment its testing capabilities, EV-DO support has been added to the QDAAT application. Testing can now be done on both 1xRTT and EV-DO compliant devices.
